Bob has planned meticulously for the ride, greatly helped by Long Riders Gary Davies. Gary, a fellow Welshman, has been of inestimable help in explaining the daily duties of a Long Rider, and encouraged Bob to make long practice rides in the Welsh mountains. "Gary is a very generous and fine man, he is a credit to The Long Riders' Guild," Bob told us. British Long Rider, Vyv Wood-Gee has also helped Bob. American Long Rider Allan Russell has also been extraordinarily helpful, and has offered to find and train two suitable horses on his ranch in Montana. Then Long Rider Andi Mills generously offered Bob the use of her excellent Road Horse! In addition, Friend of The Long Riders' Guild, the famous cowboy poet, T. J. Casey, has offered to find Bob horses in Montana. In addition to this wonderful spirit of Long Rider comradeship, Bob has pioneered a new way of plotting his route! Using Google Earth, Bob was able to see exactly where he could go in safety. He then picked out towns or villages approximately every 20 miles. Bob then contacted the local sheriff. mayor or other official and asked for information about where he could stay in or near that town. He reports that everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful, and frequently even told him about a ranch where he could stay the following night! Click here for more information.
