The Long Riders' Guild

Growing Up on the Pacific Crest Trail

In 1969 Barry Murray, his wife and three young children set off on a journey that was to become a Long Rider legend. The Murrays were determined to be the first family to ride the length of the Pacific Crest Trail. A remarkable “Story from the Road” tells the inspiring story of how husband, wife, children and horses rode into history.

This map shows the route the Murray family rode during their 4,286 kilometre (2,663 miles) long ride from Mexico to Canada.
