The Long Riders' Guild

Rocky Woolman - from New Mexico to Canada

I plan on riding the Continental Divide Trail this summer.  It will be a non-stop ride from Antelope Wells, New Mexico, to Canada.  Anyone interested in attempting the ride should contact me at rwoolman@yahoo.com for specifics.  The ride will start around the middle of June 2008 and should end in October.

May 2008
The Long Riders' Guild wrote to Rocky to ask if he could be so kind as to make detailed notes on his journey - others have tried to ride the CDT and failed for one reason or another, so if Rocky succeeds then others will be able to follow his route. Rocky's notes will join those of other Long Riders who are participating in the "Cartographic Collection."

This was Rocky's response to The Guild's request:
I thank you and the Guild for their interest and support in my upcoming ride.  I have already planned my route and stopovers. Of course, this is tentative on how it looks when I actually get to those designated places.  There are also alternate routes planned.  I definitely plan on maintaining a route journal.  Maybe it might become the "equestrian" route for the divide.  Although it does cover more "road" miles than cross country, there are too many places that horse riding can become difficult and possibly dangerous.  I've tried to pick a route with less stress on the horses, yet trying to maintain continuity with the Continental Divide and the CDT.  When the National Scenic Trails were first recognized by Congress, the CDT was established with a 50 mile corridor.  I will definitely be within that corridor.  Probably no more than 5-10 miles.

I am more than willing to share any forthcoming experiences with anyone interested enough to listen.  Again, I thank you for your support and I will be keeping you informed.
